How to Use Driving Data Scale
Learn how to use Driving Data Scale to match emotion and remove jitter in your vub.
What is Driving Data Scale?
The Scale slider is found underneath the Interpolation slider in the Refine tool.
It allows you to create a neutral expression based on the emotional range of expressions displayed by the character in the shot.
Scale manipulates the expression size of your character, ranging from very emotive to a neutral expression.
When to Use Scale
Remedy Jitter or Twitch
Occasionally, you may see a character's mouth move in a way that is not desirable. Many factors can cause this to occur, such as background music.
If using interpolation is not an option, using the scale adjustment is the next best alternative.
Match Emotion in New Performance
Occasionally, you'll run into a situation where the "size" of an actor's performance does not match the original source video.
Though DeepEditor works to capture the emotion of a voice read, sometimes manual intervention is needed. That's when the Scale function can be used.
Say an actor is whispering in the source file, but the new ADR is yelling. Raise the 'Scale' slider to make every mouth movement more exaggerated, rather than adjusting each one individually. Lower the 'Scale' to lower the emotional range and get closer to a 'smaller' performance, if needed.
Mute a Character
A DeepEditor user can easily mute a character who was previously speaking in a number of ways. One way is using MOS driving data, and another is using the Scale slider.
Simply lower the Driving Data Scale to create a neutral expression in place of speaking. Note, the audio will still be heard in the timeline during playback.
