Avid Extension: Media Package Learning Resource

Download the Media Package for learning how to vub with the Avid extension.

Introduction

We have created an Avid media package to help you learn and explore the DeepEditor visual dubbing workflow in Avid Media Composer.

This package includes all the project files and media you’ll need to follow along with our tutorials. It’s built around a short film we produced in-house and you have full permission to use this material for learning purposes.

Use this link - Avid Media Package (2.88GB) - to download the package.

Note: The media package should only be used for learning purposes and testing of Flawless DeepEditor.

Overview

The Media Package is designed to demonstrate three core use cases for visual dubbing in DeepEditor:

  1. In-Vision ADR Replacing or adjusting dialogue by syncing existing shots to the new audio.
  2. Performance Transfer – Transferring a preferred performance from one shot (for example, a close-up) onto a different shot (such as a wide shot).
  3. Performance Edit – Altering the rhythm or timing of existing dialogue, in-vision,  by editing the audio, including removing dialogue lines.

See here for a more in-depth discussion of the key use cases., showcasing how visual dubbing can enhance creative control in post-production and reduce the need to return to set.

Package Contents

The media package contains two folders:

Description

Avid Project

DeepEditor_media_package_v1.4_1080p_24fps_YCbCr_709 is a ready-made Avid project that contains bins, sequences, and timelines.

Avid MediaFiles

There is one MXF media file folder used by the project.

flawless_DeepEditor_media_package_v1.4_consolodated_media

This folder should be copied to your standard Avid MediaFiles/MXF directory.

Step 1: Copy the Avid Project

Locate the Avid Project folder DeepEditor_media_package_v1.4_1080p_24fps_YCbCr_709  inside the media package.

Copy this folder to your usual Avid project directory.

Example (Mac):
/Users/[user]/Documents/Avid Projects

Example (Windows):
C:\Documents\Avid Projects

When you next launch Avid Media Composer, in the project selection page you’ll see DeepEditor_media_package_v1.4_1080p_24fps_YCbCr_709 listed among your projects.

Step 2: Copy the Avid MediaFiles

Open the Avid MediaFiles folder in the media package.

Next, copy the flawless_DeepEditor_media_package_v1.4_consolodated_media folder into the Avid MediaFiles/MXF folder of your desired media drive.

Example (Mac):
/Users/Shared/AvidMediaComposer/Avid MediaFiles/MXF

Example (Windows):
C:\Avid MediaFiles/MXF/

Once copied, launch Avid and open the project from Step 1. The media should relink automatically.

Step 3: Explore the Project

Inside the Avid Project, you’ll find two bins:

  1. Timelines
    • Contains two timeline types:
      • Orange Timeline - a simplified learning sequence for each use case to help you understand the process of visual dubbing. The original performances (Source media) do not have a clip colour. The Driving Data (new performance as either audio or video) will be marked as orange (provided Clip Color > Timeline Local is enabled).
      • Green Timelines - A corresponding timeline that contains the vubbed outputs.
  2. Consolidated Media
    • Contains the media clips used in the example sequences. 96 frame handles are available for all the media files. The codec of the video media is DNxHD LB

We recommend getting familiar with the timelines and seeing the relationship between the Source media and Driving Data files. Using video track monitoring, audio track soloing/muting and clip muting/unmuting can help you understand how all the assets come together on the timeline.
